Great Lakes Microscopy Society Webinar Series Part 6: Ptychography
Title: Electron Ptychography Made Simple: High-Speed, High-Fidelity Reconstructions with PtyRAD
Time:
Oct 1, 2026 12:00 PM EST
Abstract:
Electron ptychography has revolutionized atomic-scale characterization, now providing sub-angstrom lateral resolution alongside nanometer-scale depth resolution from a single 4D-STEM dataset. However, navigating the complete pipeline from data acquisition to final reconstruction can often seem overwhelming. In this 1.5-hour webinar, we will break down the fundamentals of ptychography to provide a strong working knowledge of the technique. We will introduce py4DGUI to help users visualize and interact with 4D datasets, followed by demonstrations of practical reconstruction workflows. Attendees will learn how to perform direct ptychography using fast-acbf and iterative ptychography with the GPU-accelerated framework PtyRAD, empowering them to confidently apply these open-source tools to their own research.
Presenter: Dr. Chia-Hao Lee, Cornell University
Dr. Chia-Hao Lee is an Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI for Science Postdoctoral Fellow working with Prof. David Muller at Cornell University. He received his PhD from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Pinshane Huang. His primary research interests center on advanced computational electron microscopy, specifically focusing on ptychography and 4D-STEM. By incorporating machine learning techniques into microscopy workflows, his research aims to enable high-resolution, high-throughput, and reliable characterization of materials at the atomic scale.
